19 – 20 September 2019
Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, UK
NIHR Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre
Prof. Pradeep Nathan and Dr Geor Bakker from the Sosei Heptares Experimental Medicine (Neuroscience) team were invited to be guest speakers of an Experimental Medicine and Neuroimaging Course organized by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre. Hosted at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, Kings College London, the course showcased the latest neuroimaging techniques used in experimental medicine research.
The course had guest speakers from the NIHR Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre, University researchers, clinical professionals, industry experts and research participants who have direct experience of managing, working on or taking part in experimental medicine trials. The course is also designed to train students and clinical fellows with skills in experimental medicine and imaging and facilitate academic-industry collaborations.
Dr Geor Bakker presented on “Development of a MRI based treatment response biomarker to address drug development challenges”. The lecture addressed how experimental medicine is being used in drug development to address the high level of clinical heterogeneity with which patients in key neuroscience indications present, and how the development of MRI biomarkers will help to select the right patients for clinical trials.
Prof. Pradeep Nathan presented on “The use of functional imaging in drug development”. The lecture provided an overview of how functional imaging can answer important drug development questions around target engagement, differential pharmacology and prediction of treatment response.
